Bug Zapper is a browser-based software bug reporting system, designed for use in Quality Assurance departments, and proves particularly useful in situations where individuals other than 'official' Quality Assurance testers (such as technical support or other individuals) assist QA in testing a software product prior to its final release.

Bug Zapper was programmed using over 3,000 lines of programming code using PHP, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, and utilizes an ODBC-compliant database to store data regarding bug reports, users, and Bug Zapper configuration. The web server running Bug Zapper (preferably IIS, but may be run on Apache) should have the most recent version of PHP installed (at the time Bug Zapper was created, the most recent PHP version was 4.1.2), and capable of providing ODBC database access. The recommended Web browser to be installed on client computers is Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.

The content of Bug Zapper is dynamic and data-driven. By adjusting Bug Zapper's configuration (which is done by a Bug Zapper user with Administrator rights), the options that are available to non-administrative users can be modified and/or restricted.
